Hi, I'm Shumayl, a Malaysian software engineer currently based in Melbourne.
My work has centered on automation in large, multitenant ecosystems, where I have built systems to:
- automate the vulnerability management lifecycle across thousands of Kubernetes and container clusters,
- automate security and compliance guardrails and centralized network provisioning across a global AWS ecosystem across thousands of AWS accounts, and
- automate the acquisition and processing of critical parameters and machine data in high-throughput industrial manufacturing lines with IT-OT integration.
Across these, the common thread is guardrails, i.e. constraints that make the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard, whether for security, governance, or AI-assisted development.
I studied Applied Physics (Nanotechnology) at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. In a previous life, I co-authored a paper on hybrid bioplastics during my time at the Materials Research Institute (now called PRISM).
This site is a living workspace where I jot down ideas, experiments, notes, and lessons from the things I build and break along the way.
